Can a love built on secrets survive?

Rugged and hot, heavy metal rockstar, Dred Zander is exactly the type of man that normally sends Pixie running. Not dreaming about running her hands down his washboard abs...and lower. The lead singer and guitarist for the band Preload embodies trouble behind his quick smile and guarded eyes, and Pixie left trouble behind her years ago along with the name Sarah Jane Travers and the pathetic trailer her mom called home. With her abusive past in her past, she has a new life, a new family at Second Circle Tattoos, and a dream of opening her own business. She needs capital and time. What she doesn't need is a tempting long-haired rocker or the paparazzi that follow him around.

But Dred has other ideas. Pixie's sweet hazel eyes, purple hair and kaleidoscopic tattoo of exotic flowers that swirl up her arm haunt his dreams, and he knows she wants him too. He just has to convince her. But as a juicy exposé threatens to expose their pasts, and a blackmailer terrorizes their present, Pixie and Dred have to decide what really matters and fight like hell to keep it.

Fall in love with The Purest Hook, a sexy, emotional, thrilling full-length rockstar tattoo romance from Scarlett Cole, the third book in her Second Circle Tattoos series that follows new couple Dred and Pixie, and don't miss the rest of the band Preload with Jordan Reclaimed, Elliott Redeemed, Nikan Recovered, and Lennon Reborn.

5 "Just because it's strange, doesn't mean it can't be perfect." Stars

And Ms. Cole has done it again. She’s made me absolutely adore the hell out of the Dred and Pixie, which is an awesome thing, but does make it difficult to say which couple is my absolute favorite so they’ll just all have to share the top spot for now.

I liked both Dred and Pixie from the moment they appeared in The Strongest Steel and that morphed into adoration in The Purest Hook. Dred is a sexy as sin bad boy rock god chock full of charisma, charm and confidence but without the over the top arrogance. Underneath that though is a man who had a rough and painful childhood and could have turned bitter and taken a darker path, but he didn’t. With the help of his bandmates/best friends/brothers, as well a couple of close friends, he worked his way out of it and is determined to make life better for himself and those he cares about. He has his issues and fights every day to keep the darkness in him at bay, but all of that is tempered with a sweet side that he doesn’t hide from those he cares about. He’s also extremely loyal and has the patience of a saint. So saying that I adored Dred is a major understatement because the man just did it for me.

My heart broke and yet soared for Pixie aka Sarah Jayne. Finding out what she had been through as a teenager was painful and heart breaking. No one, no matter their age, should have had to endure what she did. And though she has put it all behind her and taken control of her life, some of the wounds from that time aren’t fully healed and the memories still haunt her. But despite all of that, Pixie has turned her life around, with the help of Trent and Cujo, and she’s thriving. She doesn’t see her future as being bleak mass of grey, but a bright cacophony of colors with no limits. The nickname Pixie definitely fits her. She is spunky, sassy, kind and though I had moments where I wanted to shake some sense into her, it was hard to not like and admire the woman she had become.

With all the baggage and secrets that Dred and Pixie were carrying around, not only from their pasts but even the crazy that was plaguing them as they were trying to figure out what they could be to and for each other, you’d think that their road to their HEA would be extremely rocky, but it wasn’t, not really. Though it did take a long time for them to truly open up about their pasts and the issues currently going on with them, they were at least honest about their interest in each other, that wasn’t something that was ever in question. I enjoyed their flirting and bantering, especially their texts, and the chemistry between them was pretty damn hot. What I loved the most though was even as Dred pushed Pixie to explore the pull between them, he made sure that she knew she had just as much control of the situation as he did. There were a few potholes in their road to their HEA, but I thought they were all resolved well and the whole Petal/Texting part was my favorite. Well, other than the fact that their tastes in music weren’t the same.

There was a lot going on this one from Dred and Pixie having to work out how to handle a long distance relationship to the issues from the past and present rearing their ugly heads. It was all handled well, though at times I felt as if they slowed the pacing of the story down, but other than those few moments, the writing was excellent as always. I loved catching up with Trent, Cujo and the rest of the Second Circle gang, and my adoration of them all was most definitely solidified in this book. Then there are the guys in Preload. I’m crossing my fingers and toes that we get to see more of them and that they may get their own spin off series because they are all awesome and I have this need to know more about them!

3,5 STARS

This is the first time I've read anything from this author and I have to say I'm not disappointed. When I first read the blurb I thought why not give it a try. I love books about rock stars but who doesn't, right? So, if nothing else, that definitely sold me to read the story. Since this is a series and I (shame on me) didn't read the first two books, I still didn't have any problems understanding the plot and characters. I love all of them, they seem like a fun bunch to hang out with. I hope Jordan gets his story, soon. I really want to know about his past and why his room looks the way it does.

Right, back to Dred and Pixie's story. Wow, where to start? I have a feeling those two danced around each other for a while and I loved how Dred would always ask Pixie when they'd go on a date and she would then give him an impossible answer, like Not until it snows on the Sahara. Also their other 'game' was very sexy and amusing, so thumps up for that.

Both knew how to have a great time but while they certainly had fun they both held back secrets that neither of them wanted to share. At least not just yet and that's all thanks to their horrible past that left deep scars. A past that is linked to drug abuse. I know what you might think right now, they both used them and what not but that's not the case. Basically their childhood was real s***y and those who were supposed to protect them failed at it big time! I guess Pixie's guardian angels turned out to be Trent and Cujo, her bosses, who found her literally on their doorstep and helped her get back on her feet. And as for Dred, he and his bandmates were all dealt a bad hand and together they fought to make the best out of it. And guess what, they succeeded big time in becoming one of the big shots in music industry.

But as Dred and Pixie grew closer, those close guarded secrets started to catch up to them and they
would either make them or break them. There were many ups and downs and to be honest I didn't like how Dred's drama played out. I think it was resolved way too easily, since in real life those things take a lot more time, patience and above all money. But the twist at the end of the story, now, that one I liked big time. I always love action in my reads, so that was a big plus for me for sure. Also, the secondary characters were awesome, I can't wait to read their stories.

Would I re-read the story? Probably not anytime soon BUT would I recommend it, absolutely! So go and get it now!
